Car show in McDonald set for Sunday

The 2012 “Thunder in The Park” car show sponsored by McDonald Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 194 will be Sunday in Woodland Park.

The event is free, and pre-registration for car owners is $6 and $8 the day of the show.

The show will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with registration from 2 to 5 p.m., judging from 5 to 7 p.m. and prizes awarded at 7:30 p.m.

Plaques will go to the top 50 cars. There also will be a Mayor’s Award, Chief of Police Award and F.O.P. President’s Award. One award is allowed per car. A Kid’s Choice also will be selected.

Diz Dean, chairman for the event, said the show usually attracts 200 cars every year, and owners come from Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Michigan, as well as Ohio.

Cars in all classifications can enter, including antique, classic and 2000 model year and up. Motorcycles also can be entered.

Featured at the event will be D.J. “Crazy Dave,” Porgie the Clown, 100 goodie bags, 100 dash plaques, door prizes and a 50-50 raffle.

There will be food and soda, picnic tables, a playground and a kiddie pool. Park attendants will be on hand to run Woodland Park for the day, and the car show “Street Scene” from Armstrong Cable Channel 20 will be filming the show.

Proceeds will benefit McDonald F.O.P. Lodge 194. The lodge contributes to the McDonald FOP annual high school scholarship, McDonald football program, basketball program, McDonald Baseball League, Relay for Life, The McDonald Lions Club, McDonald Community Chest, McDonald H.S. yearbook and Sideliners, Second Harvest Food Bank and the Village Christmas Tree Lighting.
