The Youngstown Community Initiative to Reduce Violence is having a news conference at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the 6th floor caucus room, 26 S. Phelps St., to outline the “C.I.R.V. School Community Center Project.” The purpose of the project, which is a collaboration among Refuge and Now Youngstown, the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center and the city’s school district, police department and mayor’s office, is to open two schools that would create safe places for the city’s youths. Annual celebration

The YMCA of Youngstown’s annual celebration for Y donors, members and employees is Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Davis YMCA, 345 McClurg Road, in Boardman. The event includes a video presentation, outdoor picnic and cookout, entertainment by the Shaffer Brothers Band and other activities. There is no registration for the party.
