Mother, son to make court appearance

YOUNGSTOWN

A mother and son from Youngstown are expected to make initial appearances in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court this week after being indicted Thursday on a charge of receiving stolen property.

Norma J. Esposito, 63, and Sam V. Esposito, 23, were charged after a July 12 search of their Pointview Avenue home.

During the search, police found property that was reported stolen in Struthers, Poland village, Poland Township and Boardman, and in most cases, the items were taken from vehicles, according to reports.

Their relative, Timothy Allen Esposito, 38, of Youngstown, was arrested earlier this month and faces several charges including felony carrying a concealed weapon, obstructing official business and receiving stolen property relating to theft from autos.

The gun he was carrying was stolen, detectives said.

Police searching for stabbing suspect

BOARDMAN

Police are still looking for a suspect in a stabbing.

A warrant has been issued for Janell R. Thomas, 28, who is wanted on charges of domestic violence and felonious assault.

Police were called to an Oregon Trail home about 8:20 p.m. Thursday and found a 26-year-old woman standing in the front yard with a stab wound to the stomach.

The woman told police her girlfriend, Thomas, stabbed her with a butcher knife after she refused to leave the house with her, according to reports.

In 2002, Thomas pleaded no contest in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court and was found guilty of reckless homicide in a case where she was accused of hitting her 11-month-old son and causing his death. Thomas denied the charge throughout the court proceedings, according to Vindicator files.

Police called to help look for child

BOARDMAN

Police were called to a residence in the 6000 block of Glenwood Avenue for a missing 2-year-old girl — only to find the girl inside the house unharmed.

The girl’s mother called police about 9 p.m. Sunday and said she had gone through the house several times and did not see her daughter and was afraid her daughter had left through the open front door, reports stated.

The toddler was found underneath blankets on a bed, police said.

An ambulance was called to check the toddler, and paramedics said she was healthy, records show.
