A 48-year-old man with Canfield and Mansfield addresses has been sent to prison for five years after he pleaded guilty to gross sexual imposition on a sleeping 13-year-old girl, and aggravated assault on her 17-year-old brother who came to her assistance.

Loman Cochran drew the sentence Monday from Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Cochran, who apologized for his actions, entered his plea Monday, just before he was sentenced in the Jan. 7 incident, after the charges were reduced from rape and felonious assault.

“You disgust me, and I’m delighted to send you to the penitentiary. I hope that you are ashamed of yourself, and I hope that the time in the penitentiary will allow you to do the penance that you should do,” Judge Krichbaum told Cochran before imposing sentence.

Cochran, who was a friend of the victims’ family, sexually assaulted the girl while she was in her bed, then physically assaulted her brother who came to her assistance when she awakened and screamed, said Natasha Frenchko, an assistant county prosecutor.

Cochran will be on post-release control for five years after he leaves prison and must register with the sheriff as a sex offender every six months for 25 years.

The sentence is non-appealable because it was agreed to by the prosecution and defense and adopted by the judge.

Frenchko said the deal was agreed to by the victims’ mother, who wanted to spare her children the ordeal of having to testify in a trial.
