Columbiana Co. real-estate tax bills in the mail, payment deadline Sept. 7

LISBON — Columbiana County Treasurer Nick Barborak announced that the second half of 2011 real-estate tax bills have been mailed.

A total of 43,625 bills were issued.

If your taxes are included in your mortgage payment or if you have already paid for the full year, you will not receive a bill.

The payments must be postmarked or received by the treasurer no later than Sept. 7.

Barborak wants taxpayers to know that, even if they wish to wait until the last minute to pay their taxes, they do not have to make a special trip to the courthouse. Taxes will be considered timely if the payment is postmarked on or before the due date. The penalty for late payment is 10 percent of the outstanding tax.

Tax payments can also be paid at any Huntington Bank branch located in the county. To take advantage of this service, you must have your statement with you. The bank cannot accept partial payments.

Barborak also indicated that those who may have fallen delinquent should contact his office to make payment arrangements.

“We are always willing to work with property owners in this county who many have experienced hard times. It is better to enter into a repayment plan than to face foreclosure. It certainly can’t hurt to call us,” he said.

If you do not receive a bill or if you have any questions, contact the treasurer’s office at 330-424-9514.
