3 Mahoning Valley hospitals make top 100 list in Ohio

YOUNGSTOWN — Three area hospitals appear in the rankings from U.S. News and World Report of the top medical facilities in Ohio.

The highest-rated local hospital was St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown at No. 7. The site was acknowledged for having one national-ranked specialty in gynecology and these high-performing specialties: cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, ear, nose and throat, gastroenterology, geriatrics, nephrology (study and function of kidney disease), neurology and neurosurgery, pulmonology and urology.

St. Joseph Health Center in Warren was rated 27 on the list and was recognized for having four high-performing specialties — gastroenterology, geriatrics, nephrology and pulmonology.

St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center ranked 29. It was commended for three high-performing specialties: geriatrics, nephrology and pulmonology.

These determinations are not based on how facilities handle routine procedures, but instead focus on specialty care.
