YOUNGSTOWN

A 41-year-old Youngstown woman faces multiple criminal charges after police said she tried to run over two police officers and a woman on the South Side.

Charlotte Moreland of Elbertus Avenue purposely crashed her Pontiac Bonne- ville into the parked car of a 25-year-old woman at 4:47 a.m. Sunday on West Prince- ton Avenue, police said.

The two officers and the woman, who was providing police with information about a theft, had to jump out of the way not to get hit by the car traveling at a “high rate of speed,” police said.

Moreland “appeared to intentionally accelerate” and drive toward the officers and the woman, according to a police report.

A woman was inside the car when Moreland drove the Bonneville into it, police said. Moreland’s vehicle hit the parked car’s front door, which was open at the time, causing the door to bend back, police said.

Moreland, driving with a suspended license, also crashed into a police cruiser.

The two police officers — Mohammad Awad, 28, and Jerry Fulmer, 34 — who had to jump out of the way got into that cruiser and at gunpoint ordered Moreland and a female passenger to get out of the car, police said.

Moreland and her passenger said the other woman and her friend in the parked car “jumped” them at the nearby Jokers Wrath Motorcycle Club on Market Street, and they were challenging the two to another fight, according to a police report.

Moreland is in the Mahoning County jail pending an arraignment today on three counts of felonious assault as well as one charge each of driving with a suspended license and reckless operation.

No one was injured, and no one else was arrested.

Moreland made news in April 2007 for a family tragedy. Her 3-year-old daughter, Cherish, was the victim of a drive-by shooting in Youngstown. The girl was kept alive by artificial means for a month. Also, one of her sons, Raymond R’Amel Emmanuel Hayes, 17, was murdered in November 2011 in the city.
