Warren council to mull definition of senior citizen

WARREN

How old do you have to be to qualify as a senior citizen?

Warren City Council will take up that issue beginning Wednesday, according to an agenda of new legislation to be considered.

Councilman Vince Flask is the sponsor of legislation that requests that a city ordinance be changed that defines the age of senior citizen.

Current law as it pertains to zoning regulations for housing and zoning issues defines senior citizen as age 62 or older, but “it is not uncommon to use 55 years of age as the threshold age for ‘senior citizen’ status,” the proposed resolution says.

The city has a zoning classification referred to as “Senior Citizen Multi-Family,” which is designed for residential buildings for senior citizens, the legislation says.
