BASEBALL

Little League Ages 11-12

Boardman opened the state tournament with a 13-8 loss to Mount Vernon in Hamilton. Michael Melewski and Domonic Pecchia homered for Boardman. Michael Cunningham’s three hits included a triple. Mt. Vernon seized control with a five-run fourth inning. For Boardman, Luke Cardillo doubled while Noah Falleti, Dominic Stilliana, Jarod Wilson and Dante Beato had singles. Today at 4 p.m., Boardman plays Washington Court House in an elimination game.

SOFTBALL

Little League Ages 11-12

Canfield opened the regional tournament with an 11-0 victory over South Dakota. Bridget Durkin and Jenna Gibson combined to pitch the shutout. Leadings hitters were Jill Baker and Mia Kindinis. Today at 7 p.m., Canfield plays Wisconsin.

Little League Ages 9-10

Canfield defeated Poland, 7-5, to with the District 2 championship game at Boardman Fields of Dreams. Canfield will participate in the state tournament that begins on Saturday at the Fields of Dreams.
