ODNR: 2 Columbiana Co. wells are producing

A second horizontal- drilling well in Columbiana County has been listed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources as being in production.

The second producing well is in West Township. It is off U.S. Route 30 about a mile west of East Rochester.

Both producing wells in Columbiana County are owned by Chesapeake Energy, according to ODNR. These are the only two wells that are reported to be in production within the Mahoning Valley.

There was one new horizontal-drilling permit issued in the area during the past week. The ODNR gave approval for a location in Fairfield Township in Columbiana County to Chesapeake Exploration LLC.

The site is off Beeson Mill Road about a mile east of Leetonia.

ODNR has issued 46 drilling permits in Columbiana County. Twelve permits have been issued in Mahoning County and two in Trumbull County.
