BOARDMAN

Arby’s, the fast-food restaurant that opened its first location on U.S. Route 224 in Boardman, is marking its 48th anniversary by offering 64-cent coupons for its classic roast beef sandwich.

The coupons can be obtained only by visiting the company’s Facebook page and using the time-line function.

Patrons must click on 1965 to print the coupons, which are redeemable only Monday during regular business hours.

First opened in 1964 by Forrest and Leroy Raffel, who owned a restaurant- equipment business, the company rose from modest beginnings in Boardman to having more than 3,500 locations nationwide.

The brothers wanted to call their restaurants “Big Tex” but quickly realized that an Akron business was operating under that name.

Instead, they elected to go with the initials for the Raffel Brothers, or “R.B.”, and decided on Arby’s.

Because the company is planning on celebrating its 50th anniversary in two years, the coupon promotion is the only staple for this year’s anniversary.
