POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Liberty and Girard:

LIBERTY

July 12

Criminal damaging: A McArthur Drive woman discovered someone had intentionally cut the liner to her swimming pool in three places, causing $400 in damage.

Theft: A worker with Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave., told police a man and a woman in their 50s stole her wallet near a counter.

Drugs: A traffic stop near Warner Road resulted in a misdemeanor charge of possession of dangerous drugs against 33-year-old Melissa A. Larosa when, police said, two loose pills were found. Larosa, of 1056 N. State Line Road, Brookfield, also was cited on a charge of having an expired vehicle registration.

Arrest: Youngstown police apprehended and turned over to township authorities 49-year-old Michelle M. Flores, 365 Emerson Place, Youngstown. Flores was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Girard Municipal Court charging her with theft.

Menacing: The manager of a business in the 3700 block of Belmont Avenue reported a Campbell woman, 19, made an implied threat of harm against the accuser.

Harassment: A Pinecrest Lane man told police a caller left lewd and sexually explicit voice mails regarding his wife.

Assault: A Hubbard man reported a Warren man, 51, punched his face while in a parking lot in the 4400 block of Belmont Avenue. The dispute apparently stemmed from money the accuser owed pertaining to work on a home.

July 13

Fraud: A Youngstown woman alleged another city woman, 27, used the accuser’s Social Security card to make three unauthorized withdrawals totaling $600 from an automated-teller machine in the 2900 block of Belmont Avenue.

Theft by deception: An elderly Daffodil Drive man told police he unwittingly became part of a scam totaling about $6,000 after having received $995 money orders and being instructed to cash them and keep a portion of the money, then send the balance to an address in the United Arab Emirates. Later, the man learned the checks were bogus.

Aggravated menacing: A Tuttle Drive girl told officers a neighbor posted online threats about her, including mention of a firearm. A charge was pending.

Vandalism: Someone tried unsuccessfully to enter Adam & Eve Plumbing, 1180 Tibbetts-Wick Road, causing minor damage to a door and its frame.

Theft: A $2,500 cargo trailer was stolen from a business in the 5900 block of Belmont Avenue.

Arrest: Police in the 200 block of Goldie Road picked up a 16-year-old Austintown boy thought to have run away from home, then charged him with marijuana possession after saying the teen had a bag containing 9.4 grams of a substance consistent with marijuana.

Drugs: A suspicious vehicle at a vacant Belmont Avenue lot caught the attention of police, who charged 24-year-old Michael S. Stanley, 2825 Hunter Ave., Youngstown, with one misdemeanor count of possession of dangerous drugs. Stanley, who also was wanted on a Columbiana County warrant, had five loose pills, a report said.

July 14

Harassment: A Rockwood Drive man said his estranged wife has been making such calls to him.

Possible employee theft: The manager of a Belmont Avenue pizzeria reported three employees were to deposit a series of earnings totaling $2,367 and that none repaid the money.

July 15

Theft: Dionna M. Bennett, 22, of 2664 Tyrell St., Youngstown, was charged in the theft of a birthday cake, several birthday cards and three gift bags from Giant Eagle. Bennett also was issued a summons charging her with disorderly conduct when, officers said, she became agitated and refused several times to desist.

Theft: Two men left Denny’s Restaurant, 4020 Belmont Ave., without paying their $30 food bill.

July 16

Drugs: Police responded to a Belmont Avenue motel regarding a possible illegal tattoo parlor in one of the rooms before charging 32-year-old Scott S. McCleery, 576 Wyndclift Circle, Austintown, with drug abuse when, they said, a bag of suspected marijuana was in the room. McCleery also was wanted on a warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court on a charge of tattooing prohibitions.

Burglary: To a residence in the 1400 block of Townsend Avenue, though police found no signs of forced entry. Two speakers and related equipment, a Social Security card and $40 were missing.

Arrest: Officers answering a disturbance call on North Gate Drive took into custody 24-year-old Christin M. Martin, 3022 North Gate, who was wanted on a charge of failure to appear in court.

July 17

Harassment: A Keefer Road man reported receiving one month’s worth of such calls.

July 18

Arrest: Authorities responded to a shoplifting situation at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, where they took 27-year-old Nadine R. Mellott into custody. Mellott, of 3829 Murray Ave., Campbell, was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant charging her with theft.

GIRARD

July 13

Menacing: A Morris Avenue man said his former girlfriend sent him threatening text messages.

Arrest: Police charged 43-year-old Christine M. Tyson, 209 Church Hill Road, Girard, with disorderly conduct after responding to several complaints she made about her boyfriend. An intoxicated Tyson also made three frivolous calls to 911, a report showed.

Theft: A Tod Woods Drive woman reported her $500 cellphone stolen.

Assault: Officers responded to a possible fight near West Wilson Avenue, where two women reported having been punched.

July 14

Theft: A $350 global-positioning-system device was removed from a vehicle in the 300 block of Elruth Court.

Theft: Someone stole a GPS unit and two garage-door openers from a car in the 400 block of East Broadway Avenue.

Theft: Someone entered a vehicle in the 400 block of East Kline Street and removed $10.

Aggravated menacing: An Idaho Avenue man told authorities a caller threatened to come to his home and shoot him in the head.

July 15

Theft: A woman discovered a $300 laptop computer missing from her South Davis Street residence.

Theft: Someone ransacked a car in the 300 block of East Liberty Street before taking a cellphone and two MP3 players.

Criminal damaging: An Indiana Avenue woman alleged her former boyfriend pulled out certain parts from under her van’s hood, then kicked and dented its driver’s side and damaged a quarter panel.

July 16

Assault: Police dealt with a fight among several women in the 100 block of Church Hill Road that apparently was the result of an ongoing feud among the families.

Menacing: A Church Hill Road woman reported her son’s girlfriend found several threatening online messages.

Theft: A North St. Clair Avenue man reported his $500 paycheck stolen.

July 17

Theft: An East Wilson Avenue man discovered three of his checks were stolen and cashed for a total of $320.

Harassment: A South Market Street woman said her estranged husband has been making five to six unwanted calls daily and sending such emails.

Criminal mischief: A vehicle near Stewart Avenue and Second Street was found with a large scratch on its driver’s side.

Arrest: Police responded to a vehicular crash near North Ward Avenue, then cited 24-year-old Mark Fiest, 1725 Oak St., Girard, on charges of operating a vehicle impaired and failure to control his vehicle.

Arrest: Shana M. Fleming, 33, was taken into custody at her home, 613 N. St. Clair Ave., Girard, on a warrant.

July 18

Assault: A Morris Avenue woman reported that two boys tossed a beer bottle over her fence, striking her daughter’s head and causing a deep cut to the girl’s hand.
