First- and second-grade students at Hilltop Elementary School were recognized at the school’s annual First and Second Grade Awards Assembly for achieving perfect attendance with the exception of missing one day or two days, perfect attendance and a special Handwriting Award, presented by each teacher.

Cathy Mowry, Hilltop Elementary principal, served as master of ceremonies.

“I would like to thank everyone for their hard work this year at Hilltop,” said Mowry.

Fourteen first-grade students and five second-grade students achieved perfect attendance. After the perfect attendance recipients were recognized, Mowry made an announcement.

“I received a call from Mrs. Sturm and she asked me to invite all Hilltop students who achieved perfect attendance this school year to march in the Fourth of July parade,” Mowry told the students.

The first- and second-grade students then learned the recipients of the Handwriting Awards from each class. At least two students from each class received the award, with a few teachers presenting three students with the award, stating it was difficult to only choose two deserving students. Each student who earned an award was called to the front of the auditorium and presented with a certificate of recognition by their teacher.

Mowry also took a moment to thank the students for their efforts in raising funds for the community.

“Thanks to our Hilltop community, this school year, we raised $11,458.58 to help our local community. This is Hilltop’s way of giving back to our community for all the support they have shown us,” Mowry said.

Linda Magyar, Hilltop Elementary gym teacher, also recognized the top fundraisers for the Jump Rope For Heart program. The top fund raiser was a first-grade student.
