Softball Fall Classic to be held in September

Old Dutch Mill Golf Course to host charity scramble

A golf scramble will be held on July 28 at the Old Dutch Mill Golf Course, 2745 Grandview Road, Lake Milton, in honor of Michael “Bub” Markota. The youth, who has Down Syndrome, recently graduated from Western Reserve High School. All proceeds will benefit the Multiple Disabilities program at Western Reserve High School.

The cost is $65 per person for advance tickets and $75 per person the day of the event. There must be four people per team. Tickets include lunch, dinner, and beverages. There will be cash awards and 50/50 raffle tickets, as well as baskets. For more information, call Dave Markota at 330-503-8534.

BB Baseball to host camp

BB Baseball will be conducting an instructional camp on Aug. 5 at the Westminster College baseball field in Wilmington, Pa. The camp instructors will be Westminster head baseball coach Tim Mulligan and professional baseball scout and head coach at Carnegie Mellon University, Claudio Reilsono. The camp will cover all aspects of the game and will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 1 p.m.

Zunic now has 2 NCAA records

A recent revision of the NCAA Division III softball record book shows Canfield High graduate Stephanie Zunic has two records earned while playing for Hiram College.

In 2007, Zunic made 145 assists on defense to earn the NCAA season mark. From 2006-09, Zunic made 444 assists which is good for the NCAA career record.

Zunic earned a degree in business management and is employed by Amerimark Direct in Berea.

Clipper cross country events start Aug. 1

The 14th annual Clipper Cross Country Series — a four-date event — will take place at Columbiana High School beginning Aug. 1.

Other dates are Aug. 8, Aug. 15 and Aug. 22, all Wednesdays at 7 p.m., for pre-middle school, middle school, high school, open masters and grand masters divisions.

Registration is $4 per runner.

Funds raised support the Columbiana Clipper track and cross country programs.

More than 60 HOF members expected

More than 60 members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame have committed to attending the induction ceremonies on Aug. 4.

Among those expected to be on hand are Joe Greene, Lynn Swann, Len Dawson, John Madden, Gayle Sayers and Deion Sanders.

As many as 80 Hall of Famers often make the trip to Canton for the inductions. This year, six former players will join the hall: running back Curtis Martin, defensive back Jack Butler, center Dermontti Dawson, tackle Willie Roaf, defensive end Chris Doleman and defensive tackle Cortez Kennedy.

The weekend also includes the first preseason game on Aug. 5, with New Orleans playing Arizona.

Pro wrestling at Eastwood July 29

Pro wrestling’s version of “Baseball Brawl” will take place at Eastwood Field on July 29 following the Mahoning Valley Scrappers game against the Brooklyn Cyclones at 5:05.

The event will include former WWE and TNA wrestling stars Matt Hardy, Carlito, Tommy Dreamer and “The War Machine” Rhino.

Six matches, including a female wrestling match, are scheduled.
