Zimmerman: I pray for Martin’s parents

SANFORD, Fla.

George Zimmerman says he prays daily for the parents of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder in the teenager’s shooting death.

Fox News host Sean Hannity interviewed Zimmerman on Wednesday, and the segment aired at 9 p.m.

In an excerpt provided early to affiliates, Zimmerman said about Martin’s parents: “My wife and I don’t have any children. ... I love my children even though they aren’t born yet, and I am sorry that they buried their child. I can’t imagine what it must feel like, and I pray for them daily.”

Judge allows mosque to open

NASHVILLE, Tenn.

A federal judge ordered a Tennessee county Wednesday to move ahead with opening a Muslim congregation’s newly built mosque after a two-year fight from opponents.

The Islamic Center of Murfreesboro sued Rutherford County earlier in the day and asked District Judge Todd Campbell for an emergency order to let worshippers into the building before the holy month of Ramadan starts at sundown today.

Federal prosecutors also filed a similar lawsuit.

The future of the mosque had been in question since May, when a local judge overturned the county’s approval of the mosque construction. This month, he ordered the county not to issue an occupancy permit for the building.

Police: 3 Brits sought terror training

LONDON

Three British Muslims — including a convert who was featured in a documentary about radical Islam and a former London police support officer — have been charged with traveling to Pakistan for terror training, police said early today.

Scotland Yard said in a statement that Richard Dart, 29, Imran Mahmood, 21, and Jahangir Alom, 26, had traveled to Pakistan between 2010 and 2012 “with the intention of committing acts of terrorism or assisting another to commit such acts.”

The statement also alleges that the three provided others with advice and counseling about how to travel to Pakistan, find training, and how to stay safe while there.

Man acquitted in nude airport protest

PORTLAND, Ore.

An Oregon man who stripped nude at Portland’s airport security to protest what he saw as invasive measures was found not guilty of indecent exposure.

Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge David Rees ruled Wednesday that Brennan’s act was one of protest and therefore, protected speech.

Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Joel Petersen argued that Brennan’s strip-down was an act of indecent exposure.

Warrants: Woman targeted by sex ring

SAN DIEGO

A woman charged with murdering a Marine’s wife said she strangled the victim to keep her from another Marine who ran a kinky sex ring, according to search warrants unsealed Wednesday.

The documents shed light on a possible motive in the killing of 22-year-old Brittany Killgore, whose body was found in April near a Southern California lake. A judge ordered the warrants unsealed at the request of news organizations including The Associated Press.

Jessica Lopez said in a seven-page letter that she acted after the victim told her that she had a “whole night planned” with Louis Ray Perez.

Lopez, 25, said she then shot Killgore with a stun gun, wrapped a rope around her neck, buried her face in a pillow and strangled her.
