The school district’s superintendent for the past decade attended the last school board meeting of his career Wednesday.

Dante Zambrini will hang up his ruler July 31, after 36 years with the Canfield Local School District — 10 of those as superintendent.

During the meeting, school board President Adrianne Sturm presented a gift to Zambrini on behalf of the board and discussed his career and accomplishments.

“We at Canfield Schools are indeed fortunate to have had the privilege of sharing Mr. Zambrini’s expertise, work ethic and commitment. He has achieved countless goals and accolades,” she said. “He is recognized and respected by his peers for his educational contributions throughout Mahoning County and the state of Ohio.”

Zambrini thanked the board, the district and especially the students. “It’s unusual that you begin as a student teacher and retire as a superintendent from that same district,” he said. “I’m blessed to have 36 years with the finest of students.”

At the meeting, the board also approved an increase in lunch prices for the coming school year. Elementary students’ lunch will increased from $1.85 to $2, and middle and high school students’ lunches will go from $2.10 to $2.25.

Pattie Kesner, district treasurer, said the increase was state-mandated to make districts pay the same amount that the Ohio government pays per students to subsidize the cost of free and reduced lunches. Kesner said Boardman schools also recently made this change.
