CHARDON, Ohio

A husband and wife were fatally shot in an apparent murder-suicide at a car-repair shop in a community where three students were killed in February at their school, authorities said Tuesday.

Geauga County sheriff’s Lt. John Hiscox said authorities received a call about 9:30 a.m. about a shooting at Cooke’s Complete Service Center along a commercial strip north of Chardon’s town square.

Hiscox said investigators were trying to determine which spouse did the shooting.

Chardon police Lt. Troy Duncan said the shootings happened outside the building with a semi-automatic handgun. One of the victims died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, he said.

The names of the dead were withheld pending notification of relatives. They were declared dead at the scene by the coroner.

Councilwoman Nancy McArthur said the deaths would revive the community’s grief over the school slayings.
