Scrappers split doubleheader with Hudson Valley


WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y.

Aaron Siliga and Joe Sever each had two hits and scored two runs to help the Mahoning Valley Scrappers defeat Hudson Valley 10-6 in the nightcap and salvage a split of a doubleheader in New York-Penn League action Monday at Dutchess Stadium.

Mitch Nilsson and Joseph Wendle each added two hits, a run and an RBI for the Scrappers (14-14), who led 10-2 after four innings of the second game. Jairo Kelly had a single and two RBIs in the victory.

Luis DeJesus (3-0) went five innings, giving up three runs (one earned) with five strikeouts to get the win.

Nicholas Pasquale gave up one run over the final 11⁄3 innings for his first save.

In the opener, Evan Frazar hit his first homer of the season and Joe Sever added a single, a double and scored the other run for the Scrappers, who took a 2-1 lead into the seventh before falling 3-2.
