SENIOR SIDELIGHTS
Austintown Senior Center, 100 Westchester Drive, has planned the following: Monday, open exercise at 9 a.m., painting class ($5) and blood pressure checks at 9:30, Ask the Social Worker and bingo at 10 and computer practice at noon; Tuesday, “Vets Helping Vets,” bingo and line dancing at 10 a.m., bridge club at 10:30, $2 cards and dogs at 11:30 and intermediate computer class and digital camera usage at 2; Wednesday, open exercise at 9 a.m., bingo at 10, classic movie time, “Father Goose,” at noon and dinner at the Cracker Barrel at 5 p.m.; Thursday, yoga ($2) and open exercise at 9:30, bingo at 10, beginning crochet at 11:30, and Bible study and cards at noon; and Friday, Wii practice at 9 a.m., bingo and discussion group at 10, Wii bowling tournament at 11:30 and beginner computer at noon. Niles SCOPE Senior Center, 14 E. State St., 330-544-3676, will host the AARP “You’ve Earned A Say” program from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 31. The program will begin with a free lunch followed by a forum for participants to voice opinions and concerns about Social Security and Medicare. AARP aims to provide balanced information about the future of Medicare and Social Security. The public is encouraged to attend and voice opinions regarding options being considered in Washington to strengthen Medicare. All comments will be recorded by an AARP representative, William Catlin. Although the program is free and open to the public, register by calling the center.
Trumbull County Senior Court AARP Driver’s Safety Program will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 24 at Kent State University Trumbull Branch, Technology Building, Room 117, and from 1 to 5 p.m. July 26 at the Austintown Senior Center, 100 Westchester Dr. The program will be offered at a discounted rate of $5 to retired teachers and their spouses. The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers. Refreshments and snacks will be served.
