Walgreens drugstore in Hubbard robbed

HUBBARD

City police are searching for a suspect after a robbery Friday.

Police said a black male wearing black and blue basketball shorts and a white shirt took about $250 from a cash register at a Walgreens at Liberty and Main streets.

Police said the man entered the store shortly after 11:30 a.m. After selecting an item, he went to the front of the store to buy it. He laid a $20 bill on the counter, and when the clerk opened the register, he reached over and grabbed the money before he fled the store on foot, said Sgt. David C. Oaks.

Police said the suspect headed east on state Route 616. Township police assisted in the search.

Oaks said witnesses did not see the robber with a weapon.

The crime is the second robbery in the city in less than two weeks. On July 2, police said a female robbed a local Subway restaurant at gunpoint. They said she took $500 from the register and the safe. Police still are searching for the woman.
