String of water-line breaks continues

Staff report

WARREN

The city’s larger-than-normal number of waterline breaks this summer continued Friday with a break on Oak Street Southwest between Tod Avenue and Parkman Road.

The break was reported at 7:30 a.m. and was repaired by about 11:30 a.m., said Bob Davis, Warren’s director of water utilities.

There have been 12 to 15 such breaks in the past three weeks, a large number for summer, but the daytime heating and nighttime cooling in recent weeks has put extra stress on the lines, Davis said.

That number of water-line breaks is more common for winter months, Davis said.

The daytime heating also makes street asphalt above water lines brittle and contributes to water-line problems, he said.
