Home Savings seeks school supplies to benefit community outreach event
Staff report
NEW WATERFORD
Home Savings and Loan Co. branches in Columbiana, East Palestine, Lisbon and Salem are assisting Abundant Life Fellowship by collecting school supplies for August Overflow, an outreach project planned Aug. 4.
Displays at branches encourage customers and residents to bring in school supplies through July to assist with the outreach event set at the church, 46469 state Route 46.
Now in its fourth year, August Overflow is a community event at which the church provides school supplies, haircuts, food and clothing to area residents. Bounce-arounds, games and a car show also are part of the festivities.
New this year will be an American Red Cross blood drive and distribution of free produce by Second Harvest Food Bank.
Everything is free and open to the public. Most events begin at noon.
The Home Savings displays provide handouts detailing what supplies are needed. The school supplies distribution, which targets students in Crestview, Columbiana, East Palestine, Beaver Local, Leetonia and Lisbon school districts and Heartland Christian School, is conducted in cooperation with The Way Station of Columbiana. That agency also helps with collecting clothes for distribution.
Residents participating in the school supplies distribution must bring a child’s report card and a driver’s license to show proof of residency. Supplies are for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Students from other school districts will not be turned away, but may be served during the last hour if supplies last.
Food and other drawings for prizes and gift cards will be conducted. Drawing winners must be present.
The car show, open to all makes and models of cars, trucks and motorcycles, will run from 3 to 6 p.m. with People’s Choice trophies awarded in all categories. There is no entry fee; magnetic dash plaques will be given to participants.
Haircuts will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis with sign-ins required that day.
More than 20 corporate sponsors already have signed up to support August Overflow as have some area residents. Those interested in sponsoring the event can send a check to the church with the event listed in the memo. All financial contributions are tax deductible. Sponsors receive publicity on promotional materials set up throughout the event, on a tri-color brochure and on the home page of the church website, www.abundantlifefellowship.us.
