UPDATE: Man involved in fatal accident at Five Points was being pursued by police

NEW SPRINGFIELD — The driver killed in a crash at the Five Points intersection this morning had been pursued by New Middletown Village Police. It was unclear whether the pursuit had ended at the time of the crash.

Matt Mohn, Springfield Township police chief, said the driver, a young male, was traveling northbound on North Lima Road, when he struck a utility pole, shearing it. The vehicle then traveled across the intersection, striking the New Life Assembly Church sign, where the vehicle came to rest.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol in Canfield is investigating.
