Children got a chance to be Olympic gold medalists for a day during Olympic Dreams of Your Library June 26, which is part of several library summer programs in honor of the Olympic games.

The Boardman library made kids feel like they were Olympians, as children of all ages participated in a host of activities that encouraged teamwork, sportsmanship and kindness. The event even began in classic Olympic fashion with a paper fire torch that every child got to hold and theme music that made kids feel like they were actually in the stands during the real games.

The event included a host of relay games and team-building activities to reinforce the value of cooperation with others. Some games included a drinking straw race, water relay and musical statues.

Parents and librarians also joined in on the excitement for a few games. Robin Carpenter, and her niece, Kennedy, smiled from ear to ear during the festivities.

“She had a lot of fun,” Carpenter said.

Though everyone cannot be a winner in the actual Olympic games, the Boardman library sent every child home feeling like champions by the end of the event.
