The Westside Citizens Coalition will host a cleanup event along Mahoning Avenue from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Volunteers will meet at 8:30 a.m. at Mahoning Valley Lanes, 2617 Mahoning Ave. Necessary supplies will be provided for cleanup. Beverages and pizza will be available for participants.

The cleanup will gather members of the business community and other West Side neighborhood groups to benefit the community, while also recruiting members and bringing awareness to citywide issues.

Open gym for kids

YOUNGSTOWN

St. Dominic Church on the city’s South Side has joined with Horizon Academy and Boys and Girls Club of Youngstown to provide an open gym for local children.

The open gym is free and offered at Horizon Academy from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and after open gym, children are taken to the Boys and Girls Club for lunch and more activities. For information, call St. Dominic Church at 330-783-1900.

Family Fest at park

Columbiana

For the second-consecutive year, the Crestview-Columbiana leadership team of ADAPT Coalition is sponsoring Family Fest from 4 to 7 p.m. July 21 at Fire-stone Park.

The event, which is free, is intended to provide alcohol-free and drug-free activities for the whole family and communicate to the community a core message of healthy lifestyles. Activities include games, music, Bounce House, bungee run, cannonball blaster, face painting, food and a corn-hole tournament.

The event will culminate with the awarding of bicycles, gift cards and other prizes.

ADAPT, which stands for Alcohol Drug Abuse Prevention Team, is an initiative by the Family Recovery Center in Lisbon. More information about ADAPT is available at www.adaptcoalition.org.

Group will meet

NILES

The Trumbull County Young Republicans will meet at 7 p.m. Friday at the Trumbull County Republican Party headquarters in the Eastwood Mall, Suite 750, near Dillard’s.

All people age 40 and under are invited to attend, including high school and college students. The speaker will be Randy Law, Republican candidate for state representative for the 64th District.

Annual poker run

The Western Reserve Building and Construction Trades will have its second annual Motorcycle Bike Poker Run on Sunday to benefit the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Operating Engineers Local 66, 291 McClurg Road. Breakfast will be provided by Panera Bread.

The first bike out will be at 11 a.m. The poker run is 118 miles and will start and finish at the Operating Engineers Local 66, with stops at Faces Lounge in Newton Falls, Ben’s Restaurant and Bar on U.S. Route 224 at Berlin Lake, Marks Landing at Guilford Lake and Backyard Bar & Grill in Poland Township. The last bike in will be at 4 p.m. followed by a dinner sponsored by Gia’s Pizzeria. There will be a raffle.

The cost is $15 per rider and $5 per passenger. The first 50 riders to register will receive a T-shirt. Donations of toiletries, such as shampoo, soap and toothpaste, also will be accepted.
