Boardman wrestlers compete in AAU tourney

Three area high school teams competed in the AAU scholastic wrestling national championships Community Division 1 in Orlando from June 28-July 2.

Boardman competed under Green Machine Wrestling Club and finished 31st, going 5-6. All-American silver medalists included Nick Mancini (120), Gabe Stark (152) of Howland and Joe Cordova (182). Peter Ryan (132) was a bronze medalist and Jordan Radich (160) of Howland and Justin Humphreys (220) were copper medalists.

West Branch finished 23rd and had three Copper Medalists (three losses in the tournament): Braylan Shelton (138 pounds), Ken Faulkner (160) and Aaron Page (220).

Fitch finished 26th with bronze medalist Roy Ware (220) of Cuyahoga Falls and copper medalist Tyler Bell (285).

Community Division I teams consist of all members of the same high school team with the addition of three wrestlers from the same AAU district. All teams wrestled 11 to 12 dual meets at the tournament.

Old Dutch Mill Golf Course to host charity scramble

A golf scramble will be held on July 28 at the Old Dutch Mill Golf Course, 2745 Grandview Road, Lake Milton, in honor of Michael “Bub” Markota. The youth, who has Down Syndrome, recently graduated from Western Reserve High School. All proceeds will benefit the Multiple Disabilities program at Western Reserve High School.

The cost is $65 per person for advance tickets and $75 per person the day of the event. There must be four people per team. Tickets include lunch, dinner, and beverages. There will be cash awards and 50/50 raffle tickets, as well as baskets. For more information, call Dave Markota at 330-503-8534.

BB Baseball to host camp

BB Baseball will be conducting an instructional camp on Aug. 5 at the Westminster College baseball field in Wilmington, Pa. The camp instructors will be Westminster head baseball coach Tim Mulligan and professional baseball scout and head coach at Carnegie Mellon University, Claudio Reilsono. The camp will cover all aspects of the game and will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 1 p.m.

Pink Ribbon Golf Classic to be held on July 16

The annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic will be held at Tippecanoe Country Club on Monday. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the American Cancer Society. The cost is $99 per person for this 18-hole scramble. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. Lunch is included, along with a Chinese auction and raffle. Bowling HOF applications

Those wishing to receive an application for the 2012 Greater Youngstown Bowling Association Hall of Fame, should contact Ted Bundy at 330-770-8161.

Once received, the form must be filled out and return by Sunday.

New soccer referee classes start July 23

The Mahoning Valley Soccer Officials Association will conduct certification classes for individuals who would like to obtain their high school soccer referee license.
