Good Hope Lutheran Church to host children’s event

Good Hope Lutheran Church in Boardman invites children to attend its VBS “Sky, Where Everything is Possible with God” event that will take place the week of July 16-20 from 12:30–4 p.m. for children in kindergarten through grade 6.

Austintown native and author to host book signing

Lori Whited Neidlinger, author of “I Banish You, Pink,” will be holding a book signing at Rita’s in Austintown on July 21 and White House Fruit Farm in Canfield on July 22.

“I Banish You, Pink” is a children’s book for ages 6-9 and is written to engage and encourage young readers, showing a positive way of dealing with some pressures and trends. Have your copy signed with a personal message from the author.

Books and bunnies to be at Beyond Expectations in Boardman

Beyond Expectations South Bridge Therapy and Learning Center, 725 Boardman-Canfield Road, will host a storytime Tuesday at 11 a.m. Visitors will hear a story, pet a bunny and take a picture with Flat Jefe. Helping Kids Grow Diaper Drive

The Boardman office of Making Kids Count, 7178 West Blvd., Suite E, will be hosting a Diaper Drive July 28 from 8 a.m. to noon to try to help families in need of assistance. Monday night writers group

Join area writers for a mix of writing exercises and feedback at Monday Night Writers. Led by author and professional writer Nancy Christie, the two-hour sessions will explore both the creative and business aspects of writing. Those with ‘works-in-progress’ will also have a chance to get comments and critiques on their work. The next meeting is July 16 from 6-8 p.m. at Peaberry’s Caf , 4350 Boardman-Canfield Road, Canfield. There is a $10 fee per class and registration is preferred. Charity car show coming to the Mahoning Valley

The Mahoning Valley Corvettes and Greenwood Chevrolet will be sponsoring its 18th annual car show on July 22 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Greenwood Chevrolet, 4665 Mahoning Avenue, Austintown. Registration is from 9-11 a.m. and the show is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The show is open to Corvettes, antiques, classics, customs, and hot rods. There is an entry fee of $10 and if you are showing for National Council of Corvette Clubs points, the fee is $20. Proceeds will benefit local charities and plaques will be awarded for all classes and types of cars, including Peoples Choice Award. The first 125 will receive a 50th anniversary 3x4 dash plaque. ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ fun

Students grades 4-6 are invited to the Boardman library on July 31 at 2 p.m. to experience trivia, games and fun based on the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series.

Local doctor offers free health lectures

Dr. Kathleen Padgitt, local kidney specialist, is presenting a series of lectures on whole foods for a holistic approach to a healthy lifestyle on August 9. The program will be held at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center’s Azalea Room. The lecture is free and open to the public. Family storytime fun for all

The Boardman Library will host stories and fun at the library from 10-10:30 a.m. on July 25. Parents are invited to join and children of all ages are encouraged to attend.

It’s Mad Science at library

Join Dr. Weirdo at the public library at 2 p.m. on Thursday and discover how magical science can be. This event is presented by Mad Science of Northeast Ohio and promises to be fun for kids of all ages.

Summer skating lessons offered at the Ice Zone

All Saturdays starting today and ending Aug. 11, The Ice Zone, 360 McClurg Road, in Boardman will offer ice skating lessons. Participants can choose from three classes: basic skills skating classes for all ages, Mommy and Me skating (Adult and toddler to Kindergarten aged child), and a special needs skating class.

The cost is $90 per student and includes six skating lessons, from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., and a $25 registration fee that includes one year of basic skills membership to the U.S. Figure Skating Association, a personal record book to track progress, accident and injury insurance, and a one-year subscription to the U.S. figure skating “Basic Skills Skating Magazine.” The total cost is $115 for regular programs or $140 for Mommy and Me.

Time Collision Crossover at medieval faire

It’s Time-Travel, Alter-Ego weekend at the Great Lakes Medieval Faire. Come dressed from any time period of any fantasy world July 14-15. Stop and see Danger Slash perform dangerous acts of questionable sanity or EmoMojo, Inc. with live jousting. The faire is located on state Route 534, seven miles south of I-90 and Geneva on the Lake.

Ursuline Center hosts trunk and treasure sale

The Ursuline Center, 4280 Shields Road, Canfield, is accepting registrations for its annual Car Trunk and Treasure sale today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For $30 each seller will receive two parking spaces. Inside the center will be a book and food sale.

The Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown will be selling household products and other goods. There will also be an antique sale for serious collectors. All items are cash payment only. Indoor restrooms will be available. The sale will be held rain or shine, no refunds.

Launch into rockets

Children of all ages can learn some NASA history and make a paper rocket to launch. Preschoolers must attend with an adult. Only at the Boardman library on July 26 at 2 p.m.

It’s ‘Just a Dream’ with the Mahoning County Green Team

Join the Mahoning County Green Team at the public library in Boardman at 10 a.m. on Tuesday as they read “Just a Dream” by Chris Van Allsburg and have fun making a craft. For children preschool to third grade.

Meet Zinc the Zebra

Come to the Boardman library on Wednesday at 10 a.m. to meet Zinc the Zebra, who has spots instead of stripes. Zinc wants to teach kids about diversity and about the importance of being kind and sensitive to others who appear different from us. Kids will also make their own Zinc the Zebra puppet.

Zinc is presented by the Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio and is fun for kids of all ages.

Business Start-Up Workshop

The library partners with SCORE, Counselors to America’s Small Business, in presenting this seminar on Monday at 6:30 p.m. Are you thinking about starting a business in the near future or further down the road? Members of SCORE will address key topics for those considering beginning a business: start-up considerations, marketing, finances, and technology for business. The Business and Investment Center librarian will discuss the Library’s sources and services for business start-up and beyond.

East High School Class of 1964 reunion set

The Class of 1964 has organized a reunion for all classmates of the 1960’s of East High School on August 18th from 3-7 p.m. The reunion will be held at St. George Croatian Center on Vestal Road in Youngstown. The cost is $20 per person and you must register in advance. The registration deadline ends August 6th. Wearing your bike helmet could get you free ice cream

The Boardman Optimists, Boardman Dairy Queen and Boardman Police are sponsoring a Bike Helmet Safety program this summer for Valley children.

During July and August, officers will be handing out “sweet citations” to children seen wearing their bike helmets. These citations can be redeemed for a free small ice cream cone at the Boardman DQ, located at 6120 Market Street.

Find hidden treasures

The Boardman library invites children of all ages to search for hidden treasure buried in the sand. Find the treasure and receive a hand stamp or a stick. During library hours through summer.
