Humility of Mary Health Partners will conduct a blessing of St. Elizabeth Boardman Wound Care Center’s new office, 7010 South Ave., Suite 6, at 2 p.m. Friday. The new office, which opened in April, was previously in DeBartolo Place. Tours will following the blessing.
Pet safety carnival

Alliance Community Hospital’s free “Canine Carnival” on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Alliance Friend’s Church pavilion is open to all area youth. The church is at 1307 West State St., but the pavilion is off Fernwood Street.
The program, which features Paws and Reflect, the hospital’s pet therapy program, will help educate youth, all of whom must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, on pet safety and care. Topics include how to approach a strange dog and what to do when approached by a strange dog, what makes a good therapy dog, and why pet therapy is important to the hospital. Cameras are welcome but participants are asked to not bring their own dogs.

A Farmers’ Market planned for Humility of Mary Health Partners’ St. Elizabeth Health Center, 1044 Belmont Ave., Youngstown, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 18 in its main lobby off Park Avenue. The market is open to the public as well as hospital staff and visitors.
YWCA seeks respite care teachers

The Youngstown YWCA, 25 W. Rayen Ave., is offering a four-week respite care program from Aug. 6-31 for children with special needs. The program runs Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with some extended hours. The fee is $60.
Funded by the Hine Memorial Fund of the Youngstown Foundation, the program includes nutritious meals and snacks, indoor and outdoor play areas and the YWCA’s Camp Empower. Call Jennie Andrews at 330-746-6361 for eligibility requirements and to register.

Lifeguard training

The YMCA of Youngstown is offering Lifeguard Training and Certification classes on July 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and July 23-27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the DD & Velma Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road.
Candidates must pass a physical competency test by swimming 300 yards, treading water for 2 minutes using legs only, feet-first surface diving to 10 feet and swimming underwater for 15 feet, and must 16 or older.

Patient empowerment workshop

Warren pediatrician Dr. Marisha Agana and Kathryn Serkes, cofounder and chief executive officer of the national Doctor Patient Medical Association, are conducting a free “Patient Empowerment Workshop” at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Highway Tabernacle Church, 3000 Raccoon Road.
Serkes is guest speaker at the workshop on patient rights, health savings accounts, Medicare coverage and how health care reform will affect families. Dr. Agana of Howland is a candidate for the newly formed 13th Congressional District.
