Jane Dias Walker installed as VFW Ladies Auxiliary officer


INDEPENDENCE, OHIO

Jane Dias Walker of East Palestine was elected and installed to the office of Department Senior Vice President to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary at the department convention held June 27-July 1.

Walker has served in many capacities in the VFW auxiliary. On the department level, she has served as historian and legislative, membership, hospital and cancer aid and research chairman.

She also served as District 6 president, for which she was named “Outstanding District President 2007-08.”

In East Palestine, she was auxiliary trustee and chaplain and served four times as president. She was twice recognized as “Outstanding Auxiliary President.”

She also served as auxiliary secretary in Washingtonville for two years.

Walker retired in 1996 from Austintown Local Schools, where she was a speech and language pathologist for 29 years. She married the Rev. Dr. Barry Walker in 1996 and moved to East Palestine.

She joined the Edward L. McGuckin VFW Post 4579 Ladies Auxiliary in April 1998 under the eligibility of her husband, a retired U.S. Army chaplain and lieutenant colonel. She became a life member in August 1998. She transferred to York Drexler VFW Post 5532 Ladies Auxiliary in Washingtonville in May 2010 after the Post 4579 auxiliary disbanded.
