Trumbull corrections officer faces theft charges

WARREN

A corrections officer with the Trumbull County jail has been placed on administrative leave and charged with two counts of theft in office for purportedly charging the sheriff’s office for work uniforms he never purchased.

Frankie Mohn, 44, of Plymouth Avenue in Girard is charged in Warren Municipal Court with felony offenses that each carry a prison term of up to a year. He will be arraigned at 9 a.m. today.

Sheriff Thomas Altiere said jailers are allowed to submit an invoice each year to the department for work-related clothing.

Mohn submitted two such invoices but didn’t actually buy the uniforms, the sheriff said. Mohn worked for the department for about two years.

Mohn was placed on paid administrative leave Wednesday when charges were filed. That is likely to change to unpaid leave in about a week, after a grievance hearing takes place, Altiere said.

Altiere said he didn’t know how much money Mohn obtained through the invoices, but records at the sheriff’s office say the value of the loss is $500.

The offenses occurred Dec. 19, 2011, and Jan. 17, 2012, according to court records.
