The Boardman school board meets in special session at 6:30 p.m. today to discuss district finances in the superintendent’s office at Center Middle School, 7410 Market St.

Summer program

OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology, 11 W. Federal St., is beginning summer programming this week with a “S’more Sun Please” event at 2 p.m. today to teach visitors how to turn light into heat energy.

After constructing solar ovens out of pizza boxes provided by Pizza Joe’s, guests will head to Central Square to make s’mores. Cost is $2 for members and $10 for nonmembers, which includes admission to OH WOW! Registration is required.

Educational programs will be hosted at OH WOW! the second and fourth weeks of every month. Visit ohwowkids.org for the calendar of events.

The next program will be July 24 and 26 at the center, and OH WOW! will welcome Jeff Raz, a circus clown, actor and teacher, Aug. 1.

Eastern Gateway Community College’s Valley Center will host Information Days for interested students and families.

The admissions process, classes and programs at Eastern Gateway will be reviewed. Sessions will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, July 27 and Aug. 3.

The college’s new Gateway Grant will be explained, and admissions staff, advisers, financial aid personnel and recruiters will be available to provide information and answer questions. The Valley Center is on the fourth floor of Choffin Career and Technical Center, East Wood Street. It will move to the Plaza Place building downtown for the start of fall classes, which begin Aug. 20.

Donations sought for Rescue Mission

Mahoning County Winners Circle 4-H Club is looking for donations of nonperishable goods from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

They will be collecting items in barrels at local Sparkle markets at these locations: Cornersburg, Boardman, Western Reserve Road, New Middletown, East Palestine, Columbiana, Lisbon and Salem.

People can drop off donations as they shop or just drive by. The donations will be given to the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley.

The club members are attempting to follow the 4-H pledge: “I pledge my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service, and my health to better living for my club, my community, my country and my world.”
