Youngstown police investigating shooting
YOUNGSTOWN — Police are trying to determine how and why a man ended up in the emergency room with a gunshot wound to his head this afternoon.
A woman brought the unidentified man to St. Elizabeth Health Center at about 1:15 p.m. bleeding heavily from the head and in need of medical attention. Emergency personnel were able to contain the wound and the man is now listed in stable condition.
Police Capt. Mark Milstead said the woman initially told police the man was shot somewhere on the South Side, but investigators were still questioning her as of 3:30 p.m. Milstead said he cannot say for certain if the gunshot wound was self-inflicted or fired by someone other than the victim.
“We are still in the process of interviewing the witness now, so until we do that and get it all ironed out, we really can’t say what happened,” he said.
