NEW MIDDLETOWN

Two police levy renewals — one for 2 mills and one for 4 mills — will appear on the November general election ballot here.

New Middletown Village Council members unanimously voted at their meeting Monday to place renewal of a 4-mill police levy that began in 2008 and a 2-mill police levy that began in 2011 before voters. Two mills bring in $48,053 and four mills bring in $96,106 in the village. In addition, the village has another 2-mill police levy which is not up for renewal.

Both renewals will be for five years.

Also Monday, Police Chief Vince D’Egidio said the County Emergency Man-agement Agency is computer-testing the village’s tornado-warning siren to determine why it failed during the tornado warnings issued last week for Mahoning County . He said the village’s tornado siren should have sounded for three minutes. Instead, it made a short noise then went silent.

Council unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding with the Springfield Local School District to keep the School Resource Officer for the coming school year with the same terms and conditions as last year. The school district pays a percentage of Sgt. Ken Goist’s wages for his work in the schools during the school year.

They authorized paying $3,850 to B and J Electric, North Lima, for installation of new electric outlets and a box for the south end of Welker Park. The work is needed to stop circuits from being overloaded and lights going out during major events there. They also approved paying Conner Asphalt of New Springfield $4,107 for sealing and striping the parking lot at the village administration building and repairing two parking lot approaches.

Council approved Daniel Kirk and Jessica McCormack as new members of the fire department pending physicals and background checks. They each will be on two years’ probation.
