Skedaddles indoor playground combined fun and music to teach kids about the importance of fire safety during its summer camp program June 15.

“Camp Skedaddles is every Thursday and Friday. The kids bring a lunch and get to play indoors and outdoors. The camp also includes music and dance with a certified kinder musician teacher. Each Thursday, we have a guest come in and talk with the kids. This week was firefighter week,” said Skedaddles Owner Dini Ricchiuti.

Kinder musician Katie Munch sang songs with children about what to do during a fire and told kids about the importance of telling an adult if they smell smoke. Munch also showed children how to stop, drop and roll if they found themselves or anyone else on fire.

“Yesterday, they had a firefighter come in so that they can see what a firefighter looks like and won’t be scared. Today, they did crafts based on what they learned. It helps reinforce the whole safety experience,” said Andrea Gross.

Children sang along to songs with their friends and took delight in dancing and playing games while interacting with Munch.

“We’ve had a ball and it’s geared to all ages of children. Every week they get a different lesson with music, which is important because it helps them learn better. The music class is wonderful and I think it’s just a nice safe place for children,” said Ann Zielinski, who brought her grandchildren to the event.

Parents were also invited to stay and watch their children and some said they were happy to see their children enjoying themselves so much.

“It’s great that he [Carson] has the opportunity to socialize with other children, which helps him grow mentally and physically — he loves this place. Skedaddles is one of our favorite go-to places in the Mahoning Valley,” Gross said.
