People flocked to see old-fashioned cars lined up at the Austintown Senior Center during the Car Cruz event June 15.

“We’re trying to help bring people to see the Senior Center and get the community involved with each other. People are excited and are getting out to meet people that they’ve never met before,” said Mark Cole, board of directors member.

Proud owners stood next to their well-kept automobiles while amazed onlookers walked around the center. Some car owners were excited to show off all their hard work. Jim Quinn, who over the course of three years rebuilt his 1949 Mercury car, was thrilled to receive the attention.

“Everybody looks at it and it feels great,” Quinn said.

The event provided something for everyone. There was a Chinese auction, games, prizes and music. People also participated in a health screening. The car cruise also provided a platform for local business owners to network.

“Small business is the way of the future. If we unite well, we can offer more business to each other.

The proceeds from the event went to benefit the senior center.

“It’s nice to see some new events that help benefit one person, but that people can come to and help others out,” said Stephanie Ezzo.
