Canfield native Katherine Wolfe, of Custom by Katherine, was recently honored by Window Fashion Division Magazine for her entry in the 2012 Envision Design Competition.

Wolfe placed second in the Whole Room Integration category and was recognized at the Vision 12 International Window Coverings Expo in Chicago. The conference is the only annual conference and trade show for the window covering industry in North America.

Wolfe, who owns Custom by Katherine at 140 S. Broad St., Canfield, was thrilled by the award.

“It was my ultimate goal to be published in Window Fashion Division Magazine. I got my dream, not only winning this award, which means the world to me, but also being published in the magazine,” Wolfe said.

The winners were judged by experienced industry professionals and instructors for their attention to clients’ needs, creativity, design excellence, construction perfection and elements and materials used.

Winners were chosen from nearly 100 entries nationwide of the best window fashion designers and workrooms. Competitors were judged in 15 specific categories, including type of window treatment, room, commercial or residential and overall excellence.

Wolfe’s winning entry was a dining room in a house in Canfield.

“Once the job was completed, it was awesome, so I asked the homeowner for permission to submit it to the competition. My inspiration for the room was the chandelier. The walls and carpet were white, so I used the crystal patterns from the chandelier and went with blues and soft golds. I used six different fabrics. The damask pattern was the same as the crystal,” Wolfe said.

Wolfe has been a member of Window Fashion Vision for 20 years and as of May 12, has been in business for 20 years.

“I was an R.N. for 23 years, but I have been decorating homes pretty much all my life. I decorated my grandparents’ home when I was 15 years old. It has been my passion all my life,” Wolfe said.

Chris Pruitt, owner of Stacey Studio, helped Wolfe with her submission by taking photos of her winning room.

“Businesses in Canfield have to work together and support each other. I have known Katherine for a very long time and I was more than happy to help her with her submission. It’s great that you don’t have to go to New York to get professionally-designed window treatments. You can keep your business in Canfield, support a local business and get phenomenal, award-wining, results,” Pruitt said.

Wolfe agreed that Canfield can compete with the big cities.

“It is awesome that little Canfield beat out big cities. That was nice,” Wolfe said.
