Canfield ignites spirit of America

While trying to beat the heat, thousands of people ‘Ignited the Spirit of America’ during Canfield’s Fourth of July Celebration on Wednesday. Whether they were lining the streets of the parade route, marching in the parade, listening to music, playing games or just trying to keep cool, everyone was celebrating their independence.
The day started with the Firecracker Four-Mile run and kids’ foot race. J.D. Eicher & The Goodnights provided a pre-parade performance.
Canfield Fourth of July Parade Grand Marshals Anthony and Michael Ross were represented during the parade. Recent Canfield High School graduates, they reported to West Point Academy July 2, and were unable to attend the festivities.
Parade participants marched in front of a considerable crowd and included a variety of local clubs, politicians, local dignitaries, police and fire, local churches, antique cars, the Canfield High School band, Canfield High School alumni, 4-H clubs, Marine Corps League, and childrens’ favorite – clowns.
Following the parade, children’s games were available on the North Green and included activities for all ages. Game players were rewarded with tickets, which could be cashed in for prizes, including water bottles and T-shirts.
The Youngstown Symphonic Band closed the celebration with a performance at the gazebo.
