Todd Hancock, Class of 1982, and Mark Huberman, Class of 1969, were recently selected as recipients of the Boardman High School Distinguished Alumni Award, which recognizes outstanding alumni of Boardman High School who have maintained a high standard of excellence and made a significant contribution in their fields of endeavor.

Hancock is an actor, singer, MC, impersonator, director, producer and writer. He is the co-founder and artistic director for the past 24 years of professional stock theatre company, Easy Street Productions, with performances primarily staged in Powers Auditorium.

He received his nomination because of the dedication he has shown to his hometown. He works with young people from all over the county in his many productions but especially in his Miracle of Easy Street performances each Christmas holiday.

In addition, Hancock has raised more than a million dollars for local organizations such as Easter Seals, Ballet Western Reserve, the Nathan Fund, The DeYor Performing Arts Center and The United Way. Hancock was named Young Entrepreneur by Gov. George Voinovich in 1994 and was also honored by Mayor Pat Ungaro for his contributions in revitalizing the Youngstown Uptown District from 1989-1994.

Huberman has also seen great success for his community and in his career. Huberman is currently the Chief Magistrate for Mahoning County Domestic Relations Court. He received his nomination because of his lifelong passion, dedication and love for the Boardman local school system.

He is the longest-serving member to the Boardman Board of Education and was instrumental in establishing Boardman School Television Network. He has worked on many fundraising campaigns, including the Auditorium 2000 Committee, Celebrate the Arts Concert for Auditorium sound system and school levies.

In addition to his work for the Boardman Schools, Huberman has served on the boards of the National Health Association, Help Hotline, City of Youngstown Fair Housing Board, Youngstown Area Community Action, Mahoning County Human Services, Northeast Ohio Legal Services, Mahoning County Corrections Planning Board, Youngstown Community Playhouse, and Good Food Co-op to name a few.

The inductees were presented with the award at the Senior Honors Assembly on May 23 in front of all BHS students, faculty and senior parents. A copy of their award plaque will be placed on the new Alumni wall outside of the BHS office.
