Man wants his case sent to grand jury

BOARDMAN
A 31-year-old homeless man asked a judge Tuesday to send his case to a Mahoning County grand jury.
Sean P. Conroy, whose last known address was in Warren, was arraigned in Mahoning County Area Court here on an aggravated robbery charge.
Conroy is accused of a Saturday evening robbery at Alberini’s Restaurant on U.S. Route 224.
Conroy’s lawyer, Atty. Mark Hanni, requested that Judge Joseph M. Houser set a “reasonable bond” of $20,000 and consider that Conroy has no prior record, surrendered to police and is not a flight risk.
Judge Houser set bond at $25,000, and Conroy waived his right to a preliminary hearing, asking that his case be bound over to the grand jury.
According to police reports, Alberini employees said a man was in the restaurant’s entrance about 11:30 p.m. Saturday and then came in with a shirt over his face and had his hands wrapped in his shirt as though carrying a gun.
Police said the employee turned over about $160.
Conroy came to Hanni’s office in Boardman on Sunday night, and, according to police reports, after police read him his legal rights, he then confessed the crime.
