Wendle, Frazar propel Scrappers past Cutters

Joseph Wendle went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs and the Mahoning Valley Scrappers jumped all over the Williamsport Crosscutters en route to a 12-6 victory in Monday’s New York-Penn League game.

Wendle’s two RBIs came on a double in the first inning as the Scrappers took a 5-0 lead. They added three runs in the fourth and put the game away with three more in the ninth.

Evan Frazar added three hits, scored a run and drove in three for Mahoning Valley (8-7), which has won five straight.

Charlie Valerio scored three runs and drove in another, while Joe Sever had two hits, a run and three RBIs, Aaron Siliga had two hits, a run and an RBI and Tyler Naquin singled, walked three times and scored three runs in the victory.

Josh Martin (1-1) gave up one run in 21/3 innings of relief to get the win, while Louis Head pitched two shutout innings for his first save.

Delvin Perez (1-1) started for Williamsport (7-8) and gave up six runs (four earned) in 32/3 innings.

The teams finish their series tonight. The Scrappers then return to Eastwood Field for six straight.
