Cruze sales dip from a year ago

DETROIT — Sales of the Chevrolet Cruze continue to be down compared to the previous year.

For June there were 18,983 Cruzes sold, which is a decrease of 23.8 percent from the previous year.

The number of sales remain in the range predicted last month by Kristen Andersson, senior analyst for TrueCar, a vehicle information website. She has predicted General Motors will typically sell between 18,000 and 21,000 Cruzes each month.

Andersson stated supply issues related to the tsunami in Japan hurt Toyota and helped the Cruze to have higher sales.

Overall GM reported sales in June much higher than the previous year. The company had June sales of 248,750 vehicles in the United States, up 16 percent year over year. It was GM’s highest sales month since September 2008. Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac all reported double-digit increases.
