Slovenefest offers full day of events
SNPJ, Pa.
Slovenefest, one of the largest Slovenian cultural festivals in North America, will be July 13-15 at the SNPJ Recreation Center.
More than 25 Slovenian polka bands and button box accordion clubs at five indoor/outdoor venues will perform from noon to midnight.
Barbecued lamb, kranjska klobase, and other favorite festival foods will be available, accompanied by Slovenia’s Lasko Pivo (beer) and imported wines.
Slovene culture will be explained with extensive displays of folk attire, crafts, household items and national heroes in the SNPJ Slovenian Heritage Center museum.
The SNPJ Recreation Center is one mile east of the Ohio-Pennsylvania border on Pa. Route 108. Admission is $8 July 13; $10 July 14 and 15; or $25 for all three days. Children 16 and under are admitted free.

Israeli performance artist at DeYor
YOUNGSTOWN
Israeli performer Astrith Baltsan will come to DeYor Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. Aug. 5 for a special performance in honor of Dr. A. Zeev Rabinowitz.
Baltsan, Israel’s top performance artist, will explore the birth of Israel’s national anthem in a program titled “Hatikva — A Hymn is Born.”
Her multimedia performance features classical, Israeli folk, pop and rock tunes; rare archival recordings; and historical video clips.
She weaves the national anthem into a fascinating personal show that details how the hymn was born.
The show is sponsored by the Rabinowitz family and the Youngstown Jewish Community Center.
