Carol Sankovic of Canfield has been named the 72nd president of the Ohio State Medical Association Alliance, a public health advocacy network that is a volunteer arm of the American Medical Association. Her term begins in July. Past President Cindy Batie of Springfield installed Sankovic April 26 at the Capitol Club in Columbus. Pictured left to right are local members of the state alliance board: Susan Berny, parliamentarian; Paula Jakubek, fall meeting co-chair; Sankovic; Katie Altenhof, historian and Michele Duffett, fall meeting co-chair. Sankovic served on the state board for 18 years in many capacities including president of Columbiana and Mahoning counties, District 6 director, and chair of the health promotion, communications and charity cookbook committees. At the April event in Columbus, the Mahoning County alliance received three state awards: most new members, best brochure and event invitations. For the first time in 18 years, the Mahoning County alliance will host the annual fall state meeting Sept. 13 and 14 at The Lake Club and Tippecanoe Country Club in Canfield.
