United Steelworkers to honor Tim Ryan for support of Bring Jobs Home Act
Staff report
Columbus
The United Steelworkers of America today said that the union will
present certificates of appreciation to Reps. Tim Ryan of Niles and Marcy Kaptur of Toledo to thank them for co-sponsoring the Bring Jobs Home Act.
The Bring Jobs Home Act, introduced by Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., in the Senate
and by Rep. Bill Pascrell, D-N.J., in the House will
eliminate tax breaks that allow companies to deduct expenses associated with moving
operations overseas, while still encouraging them to assist displaced workers. It
also would provide a tax credit to corporations that bring jobs back to the United
States.
Steelworkers across the country are contacting their congressional representatives
to let them know that American workers need this legislation now more than ever, as
the U.S. has seen 50,000 manufacturing sites close and 6 million jobs disappear
because of outsourcing, with Ohio among the states hardest hit, the USW says.
