Austintown Senior Center, 100 Westchester Drive, has planned the following: Monday, open exercise at 9 a.m., painting class ($5), monthly membership meeting and blood pressure checks at 9:30, Ask the Social Worker and bingo at 10, and computer practice and float decorating at noon; Tuesday, “Vets Helping Vets,” bingo and line dancing at 10 a.m., bridge club at 10:30, cards and dogs at 11:30 and Kitchen Krew and float decorating at noon; Wednesday, center is closed for July 4; Thursday, yoga and open exercise at 9:30 a.m., bingo at 10, beginning crochet at 11:30, and Bible study, cards and Austintown Senior Players at noon; and Friday, Wii practice at 9 a.m., bingo and discussion group at 10, Wii bowling tournament at 11:30 and beginner computer at noon. Park Vista Retirement Community will have its July Breakfast Club meeting at 9:30 a.m. July 12 in the Gathering Room, 1216 Fifth Ave. A panel of experts will talk about safety issues that affect everyone over age 55, such as telephone and Internet scams, protecting yourself at home and in the community, and creating an escape and personal safety plan in case of an emergency. Speakers will be Marcia Harris, chief fire inspector, Youngstown Fire Department; Melissa Ames, director of marketing and public relations, Better Business Bureau of Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Senior Independence Center of Mahoning County, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, has planned the following: Monday, needlecraft at 8:30 a.m. and bridge at 1 p.m.; Tuesday, Alzheimer’s Support Group and oil painting at 10 a.m., beginner computer class (advance registration required) at 10, exercise at noon, intermediate bridge at 12:30 and Caregivers Support at 2 p.m.; Wednesday, closed for Fourth of July; Thursday, Watch Our Weight at 9 a.m., tap class at noon, 500 card club at 1 and line dancing at 1:30 p.m.; and Friday, board games at 9 a.m. and cornhole at 2 p.m.

Shepherd of the Valley is inviting drivers age 60 and over to sign up for the AAA Safe Driving for Mature Operators Course. The state-certified course, which can qualify attendees for auto insurance discounts, is being offered in two locations: Shepherd of the Valley-Howland, 4100 N. River Road NE, Warren, July 17 and 19; and Shepherd of the Valley-Poland, 301 W. Western Reserve Road, Poland, July 24 and 26. The course runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day with an hour for lunch. Lunch is available at each location for $5, or participants can be on their own. Lunch reservations must be made when signing up for the class.
