Open-mike poetry set for arts festival
YOUNGSTOWN
At the YSU Summer Festival of the Arts on Saturday, Pig Iron Press and the Pig Iron Poets will host an open-microphone poetry reading at 1:30 p.m. in McDonough Museum of Art, 410 Wick Ave.
Anyone can read their own or their favorite poetry for up to three minutes.
The readings will take place in the Installation Gallery, where seating is available.
A sign-up sheet will be circulated, and the presentation is scheduled for 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. A half-hour, until 3, will be added if there is an overflow of readers.
Pig Iron Press will exhibit poetry collections and other literary fare at the event.
Pig Iron Poets have hosted poetry readings in the Youngstown area since 1975.
They sponsor the Second Tuesday Open Poetry Reading at 26 N. Phelps St., the Pig Iron Press Building, monthly.
The next scheduled reading is July 10.
For information, call 330-747-6932, but there’s no sign-up for poetry readings before events.
E.L. James to sign books at Comic-Con
NEW YORK
This month’s Comic-Con International just got a little more graphic: E.L. James will be in town.
The author of the multimillion-selling erotic “Fifty Shades” trilogy will be signing books July 12 at the San Diego Convention Center. The ticketed afternoon event is free.
James’ publisher, Vintage Books, announced last week that the three books — “Fifty Shades of Grey,” “Fifty Shades Darker” and “Fifty Shades Freed” — have sold 16 million copies since coming out in the U.S. this spring.
