Jackie Kennedy exhibit opens
HYANNIS, Mass.
A special summer exhibit on Jackie Kennedy’s life on Cape Cod has opened at the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum.
The exhibit includes photos, handwritten letters and other artifacts.
The curator said the exhibit captures Kennedy enjoying carefree days with her family, a different glimpse of a woman who was an international sensation. It includes a 1953SFlbLife magazine pictorial depicting time she spent on the Cape with John F. Kennedy when they were engaged. Other images chronicle Jackie Kennedy’s life on the Cape during her husband’s presidency.
Custody, images at stake in stars’ divorce
LOS ANGELES
When Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes first got together, he jumped on a couch, she gushed girlishly, and many of their fans said, “Huh?”
Their split could cause just as much drama.
Not only are the images of two Hollywood stars at stake, so is the future of 6-year-old Suri, with some speculating that Holmes’ decision to file for divorce in New York might mean she’s seeking sole custody of their daughter.
Ultimately, Cruise might have the most to lose.
California divorce attorney Michael Kelly, who is not involved with the Cruise-Holmes case, called Holmes’ East Coast filing “a tactical move” that signifies “there will be an attempt to gain an advantage.”
New York’s comparative-fault divorce laws could be advantageous for Holmes, he said. The couple lived in Los Angeles.
Cruise and Holmes married in 2006 after a whirlwind love affair.
Holmes filed for divorce Thursday.
Campbell, perfume firm settle lawsuits
NEW YORK
Naomi Campbell has settled a New York court dispute with a perfume company that said she unfairly squeezed her longtime agent and others out of profits from her fragrance line. The super- model, meanwhile, said she wasn’t given full information before signing a deal with them.
Court records show the dueling suits between Moodform Mission and Campbell were closed. Moodform Mission’s lawyer, Daniel Bright, said Friday his clients are happy with the settlement. He wouldn’t disclose details.
U2 bassist’s ex-aide guilty of stealing $3.6M
DUBLIN
An Irish jury has found a former aide to U2 bassist Adam Clayton guilty of 181 counts of theft after she spent $3.6 million of the musician’s savings on herself in a four-year period.
The Dublin Criminal Court granted bail to Carol Hawkins pending the 48-year-old’s sentencing July 6. Friday’s convictions related to 181 checks she wrote to herself from Clayton’s accounts.
Hawkins had claimed that Clayton authorized her expenditures, including several foreign trips, 22 thoroughbred horses, a new car and university courses for her children.
But Clayton testified he’d known nothing about it and gave Hawkins access to his bank accounts purely so she could pay bills related to his Dublin mansion.
Hawkins worked for Clayton for 17 years until he discovered her spending spree in 2008.
