The Junior Civic League had its annual Scholarship Luncheon in June and installed Susan M. Moorer as president for a two-year term.

At the luncheon, which took place at Antone’s Banquet Centre, other officers also assumed duties: Frances Curd, vice president; Betty Scott, treasurer; Christine Hennings, financial secretary; Doris Bullock, recording secretary; Crystal Hawthorne, corresponding secretary; Molly Seals, parliamentarian; and Cynthia Mason, reporter.

This year, Cinderella Ball Scholarships were awarded to Ayana Durden, $2,500; Janae Ward, $1,800; and Briana Curd, $1,500.

Since it began, JCL has awarded more than $515,000 in scholarships to high school students in the Mahoning Valley. Students are selected for academic achievement, financial need, community involvement, personal qualities and strengths.

Five other scholarship recipients were awarded $1,500 each for the 2012-2013 academic years: Nilyshia Johnson of Chaney High School; Jai’Leei Letlow of Austintown Fitch High School; Giovanna Taylor of Niles McKinley High School; Dakota Wagner of Sebring McKinley High School, and Brandon Wilks of Austintown Fitch High School.
