NEWTON FALLS

Angelo T. Vecchio II, 32, of Fairfield Drive in Ravenna, returns to Newton Falls Municipal Court on Thursday for a hearing on charges related to his arrest last week for reportedly fleeing from Newton Falls and Braceville Township police.

Vecchio was charged with felony receiving stolen property and misdemeanor charges of failure to comply with the orders of a police officer, obstructing officials business, driving under suspension and having fictitious license plates.

He remains in the Trumbull County jail in lieu of $11,500 bond.

On Jan. 25, officers stopped a vehicle with stolen license plates, but the driver, Vecchio, fled on foot along the bank of the Mahoning River.

Police officers from Newton Falls and Braceville Township searched the area but were unsuccessful in locating Vecchio.

A short time later, Braceville Township officers stopped a vehicle on state Route 5 for a traffic violation. Vecchio was a passenger, but Vecchio fled on foot again.

He later was arrested behind a building on state Route 5 by Braceville police with the assistance of officers from Champion Township, Warren Township, Newton Falls and the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office.

Vecchio also had two warrants for his arrest.
