YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating two shootings and an attempted aggravated robbery, all taking place over the weekend.

Police found a 29-year-old city man in the street near Cottage Grove and Ravenwood Avenue early Sunday, bleeding from a gunshot wound to the leg. The man told officers he was walking and someone shot him in the leg and knee.

Reports say officers tried to get additional information about the shooting from the victim, but he refused. The victim is said to have been extremely intoxicated and belligerent. Officers had to handcuff the man to a gurney so that he could be taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center.

A 34-year-old city man was also hit in the leg by gunfire Sunday afternoon.

The man told police he had left church just before 2 p.m. and went to visit a relative on Judson Avenue when a newer, full-size Ford pickup truck containing three black males drove by his location and a rear-seat passenger opened fire. The victim said he grabbed his son and was able to run to the next block.

The victim called two female friends who took him to St. Elizabeth Health Center. He had been shot in the foot/ankle area. The man’s 8-year-old son was not injured.

The man told police he had no idea why he would be targeted. Police later towed a bullet-riddled 2006 Cadillac from the area of the shooting.

A 19-year-old New Castle, Pa. man told police he was the victim of an attempted aggravated robbery late Friday night in the area of Ohio and Madison avenues.

The victim told police he offered two males he does not know a ride from the Madison Avenue area to a nearby fast-food restaurant. He said when he brought the men back to the Madison area, someone jumped in his car and produced a gun.

The man said he pulled off at a high rate of speed, noticed a Youngstown State University police officer and began to blow the horn on the car.

The would-be thief jumped from the car and ran away.
